Google Nexus One Announcement Expected 5th January

Rumours started circulating and the blogosphere started buzzing a couple of weeks ago over the launch of a new Android handset that will be officially branded and sold by Google - the Google Nexus One.

Google have been instrumental in the development of the Android platform but so far sales and handsets have been manufactured and sold by existing mobile phone manufacturers such as HTC, Samsung and Acer. The Google Nexus One will be the first official Google Phone and is expected to be a re-branded high end HTC device.

The latest news, unveiled by Engadget is that Google will be holding an Android Press Gathering on 5th January which has led people to speculate the device will be officially announced. Other bloggers have also been circulating a screenshot from a T-Mobile intranet site with details of a January 5th launch for a new Android / Google / HTC device.

All the news so far points to a US launch but we will keep our ear to the ground for any UK availability announcements and post prices as soon as they are available.
