If you have ever asked "can I set up my Eee PC with mobile broadband" or "how do I connect a USB modem to my Eee PC" then the answers are "yes" and " we will show you how". Following up on our Free Asus Eee PC and USB modem deal below is simple how to on setting up the Eee PC using T-Mobiles USB modem and their Web 'n' Walk service, with step by step instructions and screenshots.
First of all ensure your USB modem has the sim card installed and your Web 'n' Walk account is ready to go. Plug the USB modem in to any of the USB sockets on the Asus Eee PC.
Now follow the step by step how to below:
1. Click on the main Internet tab
2. Click on the Network icon to open up the networking settings.

3. Click Create... in the pop up window to create a new connection type.

4. The Connection Wizard will pop up. From the list of connection types choose: GSM/3G (UMTS)/HSDPA. Click Next >.

5. The wizard will search for the USB Modem, you should see the name of the modem. For the standard T-Mobile pebble shaped USB modem this will appear as Huawei E220 - this is the name of the device. In details you will see the USB port it is connected to. Select the USB modem by clicking on the device name and then click Next >.

6. After a few seconds searching you will see a list of available networks. Select T-Mobile UK then Next >.

7. On the Login Data screen select UK - T-Mobile from the list of operators then enter the login details:
APN: general.t-mobile.uk
User name: user
Password: pass
Then click Next >.

8. Give the connection a name like: Mobile Data Connection

9. Finally check over your setting and click Finish.

After a few seconds your Asus Eee PC will connect to the T-Mobile networks and Voilà you have mobile broadband on your Asus Eee PC - anywhere in the UK, no need for a WiFi hotspot or wired connection.

Although we set this up using T-Mobile's Web 'n' Walk USB modem expect the procedure to be pretty similar on all USB modems and networks.

"I used these instructions to connect a Vodafone dongle, I tried setting it to 'contract' and it wouldn't connect then set it to 'prepay' and hey presto it connected and downloaded. Hope this might be helpful......Dave"

"This blog was written over two years ago for the very first ASUS EEE PC model and an early Huawei E220 T-mobile dongle - it was never tested with anything else and there are now hundreds of different netbooks and dongles so the set up may now have changed. USB modems have gone pretty mainstream since then too, so it may be worth calling your network for support."

"This does work. To resolve the issue at step 3 of nothing appearing - try having the dongle already in at boot up or when you first switch on the asus. I found this recognized the modem at step 3. However, having worked through the rest of the steps ok - to the point where the dongle is enabled (both on the asus as stated as well as the steady light on the dongle) the web pages still don't load. Anyone got suggestions?"

"what happens if your USB modem is not displayed? Do you need to install drivers? If so, how and where do you get them? This had worked fine for my NOKIA 6300 via USB, but then the Eee PC was serviced and the service center wiped everything - now I can't get a connection to happen.... any help would be great!"
