The Nokia N900 is a cross between a mobile phone, smartphone and netbook. Packing in the power of a small laptop with the ability to make calls and surf the net with mobile broadband.

The Nokia N900 is way more than a smartphone; an evolution of the Nokia N800 and N810 portable computers, it is more like a netbook in the shell of a mobile, its a mobile computer.

Powered by an ARM 600Mhz processor with up to 1GB of RAM the Nokia N900 is fast allowing you to run several applications at once and multi-task between them. It runs a Linux based operating system developed by Nokia called Maemo.

Linux is an open source OS which is installed on many netbooks such as the Asus Eee PC which gives you an idea of the power and versatility of the device. With Maemo you can download and install new applications aswell as receive software updates automatically over the air. If you are familiar with Linux you can probably call up a shell and tinker with the underlying system to your hearts content.

For a mobile computer the Nokia N900 is small with a 3.5" touch screen with a wide display and 800x480 pixel resolution. There is an integrated QWERTY keyboard or use the on-screen keyboard.

One of the most requested features on the N800 and N810 was for it to be able to make calls. The N900 now comes with full network connectivity which not only allows you to make voice calls but it has HSDPA high speed mobile broadband built in, and with a Mozilla based browser you can expect the internet to work like you are using Firefox.

There is a built in 5 mega-pixel camera and 32GB of storage for all your photos as well as DVD quality videos and MP3 music tracks. aGPS is built in along with Nokia's Ovi maps application for easy navigation and directions.
